Join us August 22th at 8:30 pm at Carrboro Raw for a free outdoor film screening of Darwin’s Nightmare, an academy award nominee for best documentary.
Darwin’s Nightmare is a tale about humans between the North and the South, about globalization, and about fish. Hubert Sauper’s moving documentary is about hardscrabble life in Tanzania, where the hungry are left to fend for themselves on whatever they can find while their waters are emptied of perch that’s sent to wealthier nations. As the impoverished country teeters on the brink of starvation and devastation, weapons are brought in far more often than food and clothing for the nation’s needy.
Please join us July 20, 8:30pm @ Carrboro Raw (across from Weaver St Market in downtown Carrboro) for a free outdoor film screening of “No Impact Man”.

Please join us July 11, 8:30pm @ Carrboro Raw (across from Weaver St Market in downtown Carrboro) for a free outdoor film screening of the Garbage Warrior
What do beer cans, car tires and water bottles have in common? Not much unless you’re renegade architect Michael Reynolds, in which case they are tools of choice for producing thermal mass and energy-independent housing. For 30 years New Mexico-based Reynolds and his green disciples have devoted their time to advancing the art of “Earthship Biotecture” by building self-sufficient, off-the-grid communities where design and function converge in eco-harmony…While politicians hum and ha, Mother Nature strikes, leaving communities devastated by tsunamis and hurricanes. Reynolds and his crew seize the opportunity to lend their pioneering skills to those who need it most. Shot over three years and in four countries, Garbage Warrior is a timely portrait of a determined visionary, a hero of the 21st century.
Bring blankets and chairs. Hope to see you there!

Homegrown Revolution: A short film about urban homesteading! In the midst of a densely urban setting in downtown Pasadena, radical change is taking root. For over twenty years, the Dervaes family have transformed their home into an urban homestead. They harvest nearly 3 tons of organic food from their 1/10 acre garden while incorporating many back-to-basics practices, as well as solar energy and biodiesel. (Film’s Runtime 15 min.)
The Garden: The fourteen-acre community garden at 41st and Alameda in South Central Los Angeles is the largest of its kind in the United States. Started as a form of healing after the devastating L.A. riots in 1992, the South Central Farmers have since created a miracle in one of the country’s most blighted neighborhoods. Growing their own food. Feeding their families. Creating a community. But now, bulldozers are poised to level their 14-acre oasis. The Garden follows the plight of the farmers, from the tilled soil of this urban farm to the polished marble of City Hall. (Film’s Runtime 80 min.)
